Catalysis plays a major role on contemporary society. Approximately 85-90% of the products ion chemical industry are the result of catalytic processes. Electron microscopy provides a means of investigating catalyst from the micron scale all the way down to the atomic scale revealing information about the structure, morphology and crystallography. When combined with spectroscopic techniques within the microscope compositional and chemical state can be obtained as well. This unique combination provides researchers with a unique window to the intricate details of the material. More specifically, electron microscopy provides key information at various states of the catalysts life cycle, from synthesis through activation to the deactivated material.
